-How I act-

Personality

Around Family

Family is a difficult concept for Rakesh. The half-goblin step-child in
an all-goblin home was not the best of environments, and as a result the only
person Rakesh considered family was his mother. He was forced to obey his
step-father while under his roof, but he was a menace to his step-brothers and
–sister. Some of his antics were harmless enough, and a few were a bit more
dangerous than he would admit. Although Rakesh loves his mother, Vanja’s
indifference to Rakesh has caused him to not bother with her anymore as well.
Since his banishment to the Topside he hasn’t been in contact with any of them
in several years. He also has no fond desire to track down his biological
father: in his mind if the man didn’t want him as an infant, then he surely
would not be wanted as an adult.

Around Enemies

It is fairly easy to make an enemy of Rakesh, for he can be a fickle
man. Prejudice and discrimination are the top two most grievous of offenses,
with lying and breaking promises or deals being the third. His demeanor will be
outwardly icy, but on the inside he is scheming for how to best get rid of that
person or make them suffer in exquisite agony. It is advised to never assume he
will help if you are considered his enemy: Rakesh will create a shrewd business
deal and won’t hesitate to either double-cross or manipulate the terms in a way
most unfavorable for the other person. Although Rakesh prefers to keep to the
shadows or ensnare his adversaries with their own words, he is not at all
beneath getting his hands dirty and disposing of the enemy directly.

Usual Mood around strangers:

To put it simply, Rakesh is always looking to make a deal. However, his
demeanor also depends on how well others treat him. It is possible for his
moods to change in the blink of an eye. In some instances he does reveal a
sense of humor, with a sarcastic or dark streak. Rakesh also doesn’t
automatically open up regarding some facts about his life until he has
sufficiently observed them and evaluated their trustworthiness. He will,
however, lie just enough to pacify the inquisitive if it becomes necessary.
Let’s just face it: as hypocritical as it is of Rakesh, it’s hard to tell when
he speaks the truth... if at all.

-History-

Your Story Please?

Rakesh’s story begins with his parents. Vanja came from a long line of
Goblin silversmiths and longed to see the world. She desired this despite
knowing she would only come home to an arranged marriage and little else but
the duties of family life. Many of her clansmen and –women thought it was an odd
thing for her to do. This didn’t stop Vanja, and during her excursions on the
Surface she met a dashing young wizard. For all of the cleverness bestowed to
the Goblin race Vanja found herself soon head-over-heels for this man. In a
rebellious move against her society’s customs she slept with the Wizard on her
last night above ground.

She then proceeded to turn down every suitor her mother and grandmother
deemed appropriate. As Vanja swiftly started showing vague signs of pregnancy,
the search for a suitor became ever more urgent. She was eventually married off
to a poor miner named Snum, whether Vanja wanted this union or not. No one told
him about the child already growing within his bride. With each passing day in
her unhappy marriage, Vanja resented even more the unborn child’s existence. It
was the child’s fault that she was forced to marry below her station. It was
the child’s fault that she felt so miserable all the time. Snum did his best to
cheer Vanja, so certain he was that the baby was his. Even though Goblin
Healers had to perform a caesarian section on Vanja to get the baby out, Snum
was overjoyed to know that he was the father of a healthy baby boy. The Healers
also informed him that they healed Vanja so thoroughly that in several months
she would be able to become pregnant again if they chose to do so.

With the birth of Rakesh, Vanja found herself terribly busy fulfilling
the duties of wife and mother. That didn’t stop her from a secret trip to the
surface to find the Wizard she had fallen for. With the baby in her arms she
ventured to the old pub, found him, and begged the Wizard to take her away from
the terrible life she had with her people. Instead of helping, the Wizard
instead told her to go back to her people and refused to be of any assistance.
He wouldn’t even speak with Vanja afterward. Instead of returning to her life
she remained on the Surface and on the outskirts of the subterranean caverns
she called home.

Guards were eventually sent out to retrieve her, and brought both Vanja
and baby Rakesh back to Snum. There was a huge legal debate over the marital
difficulties, which was complicated further when Rakesh’s true origins were
revealed. Despite the pain it caused to hear the truth, Snum declined shunning
Vanja... much to her dismay at the time. The hearing concluded with the child
being brought up to believe he is 100% Goblin, and his biological father never
to be spoken of again. However: should the child exceed certain parameters, he
would be permanently exiled from all Goblin communities from that moment
onward.

Things from there progressed as normal as possible. Vanja eventually
grew to love her husband, and gave him three children. It became achingly clear
to Rakesh that his younger siblings were much more favored than he. Both Vanja
and Snum spent considerably more time with the younger ones, and left Rakesh to
his own devices. Those devices turned out to be less than innocent – tricking
and deceiving other Goblin children. Some of it was simple prankage, while
other shenanigans were devised with the intent of acquiring desired items
through deceptive or even potentially dangerous agreements. It got him a lot of
trouble and ergo the attention he so craved. Rakesh also was a menace to his
siblings whenever the chance arose and he believed that he could get away with
the deeds.

Being born and bred in the Goblin way of life, Rakesh did not at first
learn the magics of his father’s wizarding nature but rather that of his
mother. The instructors in the Goblin society taught him with a slight
reluctance. If he grew enough to be expelled, it was their fear that he would
go Topside and teach the wizards their secret teachings. So they instilled in
him the doctrine that their secrets must be kept Secret, and did not teach him
completely everything he needed to know. With true cleverness, Rakesh managed
to solve the “riddles” that were the missing bits of information he needed to
accomplish the magic successfully.

At the age of fifteen, Rakesh had reached the height of four feet and
eight inches tall, towering over Goblin child and most adults alike. He was
unable to function in certain areas of Goblin society because he was too tall.
For this, he was cast out of the Goblin community he had called home for almost
two decades. The local authority sent him off with a few items, and his own
family gave him even less outside of the realm of his own possessions. As
sunlight grazed his skin for the first time since he was an infant, Rakesh
found the experience of exile to be both terrifying and thrilling. It was a new
adventure in the next chapter of his life.

Rakesh made his teenage living as little more than a street urchin,
performing what tasks he could and stealing to make up for any financial
shortages. As the years progressed he learned to apply his trade in the Surface
World, and worked hard to learn to read and teach himself about the Human magic
that remained dormant in him. Rakesh worked the system and acquired the one
thing denied to all Goblins: a wand. Years of exchanges with various learned
folk – knowledge for some menial task or another – helped him hone his current
skill sets and gain new ones.

Now twenty eight years old, Rakesh continues to live by making various
deals with people. Some of these arrangements are honest, while others are not
so truthful. How he makes deals depends largely on the individual situation but
he usually stacks the terms to be more in his favor while trying to convince
the other that it is equally beneficial. A few of the “deals” he makes are
simply magic-for-hire: ridding a person of a curse or concocting a potion to
cure an ailment. Rakesh usually makes enough money daily to keep himself fed
and sheltered by inns as he wanders the world, seeing no need to stay too long
in one place or own a house. Rakesh has his ways of finding those in need, and
is just waiting for the opportunity of a lifetime.
